2021 SSACEIF Held Online, New Opportunities for International Cooperation in the Post-Epidemic Era

On August 25, the 2021 South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (hereinafter referred to as the “2021 SSACEIF”) was launched online in Kunming, to provide businessmen with a “cloud” exhibition platform in multiple ways such as online negotiation, live broadcast and electronic signing, multiple angles and multiple languages, to promote new breakthroughs in economic and trade cooperation in the post-epidemic era.

With the theme of “New Opportunities, New Development”, the 2021 SSACEIF is held online through the “CSA Expo Digital Platform” (www.csa-expo.com). Up to now, 27,929 exhibitors and 11,693 suppliers have registered on the platform. 8 South Asian countries including India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, 11 Southeast Asian countries including Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as enterprises and businessmen from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Germany, Chile, France, etc. have attended the 2021 SSACEIF. The 2021 SSACEIF will close on August 29.

The reporter learned that the 2021 SSACEIF will have 6 online theme exhibition halls, including the exhibition hall for domestic provinces, municipalities and cities, overseas exhibition hall, investment cooperation exhibition hall, green energy exhibition hall, healthy living exhibition hall, and green food exhibition hall. Fully integrated intelligent services and such ways as online negotiation, electronic contract and preferential logistics are adopted to deliver more than 1,370 E-commerce live broadcasts, including live broadcasts by the consul, big shots and exhibitors.

Wu Zhengping, Director-General of Bureau of Trade Development of Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) delivered a speech in the ceremony. He expressed his hope that various parties should enhance understanding and concentrate their minds and energy through the 2021 SSACEIF to deepen and make new breakthroughs in multi-bilateral trade, investment, economic and technological cooperation in the fields of processing trade, cross-border e-commerce, cross-border agriculture, and cross-border tourism, so as to lift bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and South Asian and Southeast Asian countries to higher levels.

Fang Hong, Deputy Director-General, Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, pointed out that anti-epidemic cooperation, promoting economic development and ensuring better livelihood are what people aspire for. China and South Asian and Southeast Asian countries will cooperate with and help each other to win the global battle against the novel coronavirus and maintain economic and trade exchanges. In the context of the accelerated digital transformation driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, China is actively expanding cooperation in new business formats such as the digital economy to facilitate the steady economic recovery of other regions and countries around the world

Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, said that Vietnam is China’s biggest trading partner in ASEAN. At present, China and Vietnam need rigorous cooperation, expanded opening up and fewer restrictions and obstacles as never before, to create more favorable conditions for bilateral trade.

Khamphao Ernthavanh, Lao Ambassador to China, expressed her congratulations to the opening ceremony, and she hoped to take advantage of the online exhibition platform to further expand exchanges and deepen border and cross-border cooperation with China and Yunnan.

Qiu Jiang, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province announced the opening of the online 2021 SSACEIF. He said that since the 2017 South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) kicked off in Kunming, the SSACEIF has effectively stimulated the regional development vitality and cooperation potential in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean Rim, and further enriched the connotation of the wide consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits under the Belt and Road Initiative. The 2021 SSACEIF is held online, to provide enterprises in various countries with an effective intelligent economic and trade exchange platform, boost anti-epidemic cooperation and economic recovery, promote deep integration of the industrial chain, supply chain, and value chain of various countries, and create a win-win, shared, development and prosperous future.

In the opening ceremony held via video link, the participants have learned about the latest progress of China-Laos Railway construction, and jointly witnessed the first launch of the trial train at Lincang Station of the new China-Myanmar Railway, the pilot project for regionalized management of cross-border animal diseases, and the signing ceremony of the provincial operation platform of China-Laos Railway International Freight Train.
